The Cienaga Grande of Santa Marta Colombia is where you can visit the Stilt Houses
“Cultural exchange with fishing communities can be experienced near the town of Ciénaga (a journey that includes land and
boat transportation) in the stilt villages of the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, where colorful wooden houses and canoes are
a vital part of the landscape. One of the villages is known as Nueva Venecia or El Morro.”This pictures here are from the
Stilt houses or Palafitos of BUENAVISTA, as you can see is very colourfull this fishermen village ,they move around in canoes ,
what amaze me must is that the dogs goaround swiming !!! they are not allowed in the canoes.
This people make their living mainly trapping crabs and fishing,
It takes more than an hour to reach them deep in to the cienaga going by speed boat, they have been there for over
a century andthey have no intentions of moving out they say. They are very friendly and will tell you stories
but you cannot stay there ,there are no hotels or acomodations at all.
How to get there:You can get there from the city of Barranquilla,or from Santa Marta.contact us here on the contact page
or leave a message or comment and we will give you the exact info as to the safe and sound way to get there, dont just
jump into any canoe with no safety at all .
