Hydrography of the Colombian Amazon
Through the Amazon Rainforest flows the second longest and most voluminous river on the planet, the Amazon River. This river contains more water than the Nile, Yangtze, and Mississippi combined. It also holds the world’s largest hydrographic basin, covering around 7.05 million square kilometers, which is a fifth of the planet’s river flow. The river basins in Colombia that drain into the Amazon River are the Caquetá and Putumayo rivers. Additionally, among the most important rivers are the Guaviare, Apaporis, and Vaupés.
